Job Description:
Day shift – 10 am – 8 pm with flexibility - shift flexibility is critical, including excess hours and weekends.  50+ hour workweeks are common during the peak season.  The Quality Assurance Department provides technical and regulatory support to both internal and external customers in the form of auditing, testing, validation, and training.  The Quality Assurance Technician performs the following functions in support of this mission.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conducts regular audits of the product quality program to assure conformance to customer specifications, including raw material and finished product testing, review of process control data, and validation of established programs.
  • Conducts regular audits of the food safety program to assure SQF and regulatory compliance, including review of food safety documentation, plant sanitation inspection, observation of personnel practices, evaluation of equipment condition, and conducting food safety testing.
  • Initiates timely and effective corrective action when audits uncover deficiencies in the product quality or food safety programs.  Confidently makes decisions to place products on-hold, schedule further product evaluations, or obtain additional samples for analysis.  Assures that all corrective actions are properly documented.
  • Provides regular guidance and decision support to production staff regarding product quality and food safety concerns.  Performs training with applicable staff when necessary.
  • Serves as a key liaison with USDA regulatory inspectors as part of the Quality Assurance team.
  • Assists Quality Assurance management with problem solving, including investigation into the root cause of customer complaints and recurring product defects.

Qualifications:
The successful candidate will be detail oriented with above average organizational skills.  In addition, the candidate must be self motivated, possess high energy, and have excellent verbal and written communication skills.  Successful candidates will have a positive, team first attitude and will display tact and diplomacy with peers and management.  Basic computer skills, including familiarity with email and spreadsheets, are essential.  HACCP certification is a plus.

Experience/Education:
An associate degree and two years experience in a manufacturing environment (food processing preferred) is required.  An equivalent combination of education and work experience may be substituted for the degree at the discretion of Quality Management.

High Liner Foods USA has a need for a Food Technologist to join our expanding Research and Development Team.  This position reports to the Director of R&D and is located in our Danvers, MA  Facility.

Responsibilities
Formulates new products and modifies existing product formulas based on general and/or specific input from Sales and Marketing channels.

Designs and executes new product line test runs.

Analyzes line test results and recommends appropriate adjustments to product formulas and/or processes to keep manufactured product within desired target cost parameters and organoleptic attributes.

Troubleshoots and recommends modifications to existing product formulas and/or processes to improve productivity, quality and/or product cost.

Generates preliminary and finished product specifications for new processes.

Maintains accurate laboratory and project work documentation.

Supports Sales and Marketing channels with customer presentations both on and off-site. This requires formal "customer facing" in a professional manner with a sound working knowledge of company products, processes and capabilities.

 Assists Culinary with product demonstrations, luncheons, seminars, food shows, focus groups, etc. Maintains "cutting edge" knowledge of food manufacturing processes, ingredients and raw materials as they apply to the seafood industry and the food industry as a whole.

Substitutes for R&D Technicians for sample packing, shipment, laboratory maintenance, etc. as required.

Our expanding Quality Assurance Division is seeking a Senior Technologist to drive process improvements.  Qualified candidates will have at least a B.S. in a science discipline/engineering and 2-5 year’s experience in food or pharmaceutical manufacturing, process oriented with strong troubleshooting skills, and ability to think analytically.  Strong computer skills, knowledge of statistical process control (SPC). This is a hands-on position in the production area, integrated with some Lab/R&D bench work for certain formulations and projects. Ability to communicate and work effectively with all levels of operations is necessary. In addition, the candidate must be able to work independently and start projects by his/her own initiative and follow them up until completion.

The ideal candidate must have a good understanding of the science behind process control (like heat transfer and rheology principles), chemistry (like Maillard and Caramelization reactions, as well as fats and colloidal systems), and machinery/processing equipment functioning (general understanding of pumps, homogenizers, vacuum systems, etc).

The Position
This is a NEWLY CREATED POSITION  and will manage 5 technicians on 4 shifts. The major priority is to insure that 100% of all product released for shipment meets at least the minimum standards established for that product.

Position Responsibilities
1.  This person is responsible to insure that all quality testing and recording are performed
     according to the strict standards established by the VP of Science & Technology. This
     includes insuring that the lab and all equipment are well maintained.
2.  Assist QA Manager insure that all technicians perform QC testing necessary to produce a
     product which meets all established standards.
3.  Manage and continuously improve personnel, products, processes, and specifications to insure
     that all strategic initiatives, tactical plans, and operation objectives are achieved.
4.  Work with the QA Manager to train, and manage the quality team.
