Key Job Responsibilities:
The Sensory Coordinator designs, executes, and analyses results from consumer tests and sensory evaluations of Private Label brand and competitive brand products. The ideal candidate will posses and apply knowledge of the sensory science to plan and coordinate projects including recommendations to guide product develop and improvement. This role will work with cross-functional teams and assisting in the overall product development process and maintenance of the on-site sensory test kitchen.

  • Manage and coordinate all internal and external sensory related requirements

Job Requirements and Qualifications:

In this position, you will be responsible for leading a broad array of packaging projects including identifying new package ideas, addressing quality opportunities to improve the structural package performance, translating business and technical product requirements for both new and existing products into well defined direction and guidance for the product or packaging while meeting both our short term and long term company goals related to sustainable packaging.

Essential duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Evaluate and develop structural packaging designs and materials to ensure they provide the barrier protection required to ensure the integrity, quality and safety of the product, including shipping integrity throughout the distribution chain.
  • Maintain and update sustainability scorecard semiannually, identify sustainable packaging potential options to optimize, innovate and transform our product packaging, and develop team expertise on sustainable packaging.
  • Identify opportunities to optimize our existing packaging systems and potential innovations to transform our packaging.
  • Identify and address technical solutions to primary packaging, case packs, and pallet configurations from manufacturing through the distribution chain.
  • Conduct analysis of long-term opportunities for sustainability including biopolymers, recycled content, etc to help set strategic direction for packaging at Stonyfield Farm.
  • Maintain strong relationships with the sustainable packaging community to help identify, engage, and manage outside consultants (as required) who can assist with fast paced new product packaging development.
  • As part of our innovation process participate in the development and evaluation of innovative packaging designs and materials, from concept through launch including conducting consumer testing.
  • Manage manufacturing line testing and evaluation of new packages, boxes and pallet configurations as part of the project teams.
  • Interfaces with all levels of management concerning packaging functions and programs. Provides training to corporate and plant personnel as needed.
  • Report daily to the Director of R&D and Technical Services on the current status of any issues related to package design and execution.
  • Provide support and information to any department of SFI:  Marketing, Logistics, Manufacturing, Natural Resources, Supplier Development, QC and Corporate QA.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Degree in Packaging Materials/Packaging Engineering/or other packaging disciplines
  • 5-10 years experience in Packaging Development R&D working in a food production organization
  • Work experience and studies in sustainable packaging and design for the environment
  • Mathematics proficiency in using algebraic expressions.
  • Computer knowledge is required. Knowledge of IBM Lotus Notes, Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and Access are a plus.
  • Must think in a logical manner.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to present to large groups is a must.
  • Ability to take direction and work both independently and in a team environment.
  • Ability to follow procedures to detail and work under pressure.
  • Ability to adapt in a fast-paced, changing work environment.
  • Ability to maintain an organized and clean work area.
  • Must be flexible with work schedule as projects and circumstances necessitate.

Our expanding Quality Assurance Division is seeking a Technologist to drive process improvements.  Qualified candidates will have at least a B.S. in a science discipline/engineering and 2-5 year’s experience in food or pharmaceutical manufacturing, process oriented with strong troubleshooting skills, and ability to think analytically.  Strong computer skills, knowledge of statistical process control (SPC). This is a hands-on position in the production area, integrated with some Lab/R&D bench work for certain formulations and projects. Ability to communicate and work effectively with all levels of operations is necessary. In addition, the candidate must be able to work independently and start projects by his/her own initiative and follow them up until completion.

The ideal candidate must have a good understanding of the science behind process control (like heat transfer and rheology principles), chemistry (like Maillard and Caramelization reactions, as well as fats and colloidal systems), and machinery/processing equipment functioning (general understanding of pumps, homogenizers, vacuum systems, etc).

In this position, you will be responsible for providing oversight and direction in all aspects of quality department level activities in support of the Stonyfield Farm Londonderry Plant.  Assist in ensuring that company mission and goals are achieved by participating in the formulation and implementation of all Quality Assurance and technical programs, policies and procedures as related to department oversight and responsibility, and adherence to regulatory compliance for all products and processes.  Responsible for the management of the full scope of the department and for the development and administration of the plant quality department budget.  

Essential Responsibilities are:

  • Oversee the adherence to company quality metrics and targets and accurately report on trends and ratings related to quality systems at the plant with regard to state, federal, local and company regulatory requirements.
  • Manage all routine regulatory aspects of operating a dairy plant under the regulatory oversight as part of the NCIMS program.
  • Oversee the creation and maintenance of internal food safety programs and processes to ensure both management’s and organization’s awareness of compliance issues.  Ensure development and ongoing delivery of education/training to management and plant staff in support of company specific quality management policies and monitor organizational compliance to standards. 
  • Direct the development, implementation, communication, and document control of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) to ensure compliance with regulatory agencies and customer requirements.
  • Establish and monitor processes to evaluate and recommend the outcome of products that fail to meet specifications to ensure the appropriate management of product quality in line with consumer expectations. Investigate processes and root cause leading to failed product and develop solutions to eliminate reoccurrence.
  • Oversee the effective management of the Quality department inclusive of all exempt and non-exempt employees servicing a 24/7 operating plant. Responsible for managing scheduling, staffing, selection, training, performance management and employee development.
  • Perform education, implementation and management of all microbiological, Physio-chemical, organoleptic, and environmental analyses for R&D and QC groups.
  • Develop, submit and adhere to Quality department fiscal budgets ensuring adequate resources to operate effectively.
  • Responsible for company wide education to all plant personnel regarding           quality and product related issues and communications with state and federal regulators with respect to the Londonderry plant manufacturing and quality compliance.
  • Work in conjunction with Manufacturing and Engineering Departments to identify systematic operational problems effecting quality and coordinate process or system changes and/or corrective actions that will resolve problems and improve operations.  Should process changes require FDA/Regulatory approval, write summary reports as required.
  • With the assistance of Corporate Quality and Food Safety, direct the transition to the Groupe Danone Quality programs.
  • Develop monitoring processes, trending and tracking of errors, inspection findings, and internal audit results to review and analyze data to determine if modifications or additions to the current Quality processes are required.  Create recommendations to ensure organizational compliance.
  • Responsible for adhering to established quality standards and specifications regarding vendor compliance of all incoming ingredients and materials.
  • Participate in the planning and execution of new product start-ups and for the implementation of any product improvements/reformulated product/process technologies at the Londonderry Plant.
  • Ensure plant adherence to kosher and organic standards and specifications.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Dairy/Food/Nutritional sciences or Food Microbiology, 
  • Minimum of 7 years quality assurance management experience with dairy and food industry. Experience in sanitation and manufacturing are a plus.
  • Well versed in the PMO and its related regulations.  Minimum 3 years experience managing PMO regulatory compliance in a dairy manufacturing facility.
  • Experience managing a production quality laboratory in a fast paced environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Strong computer skills, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
